But Americans today are having less of it than Americans a decade ago, according to a just-released study appearing in Archives of Sexual Behavior. And in a third study, it was reported that out of the 16, adults interviewed, the older participants were having sex about 2 to 3 times per month, while younger participants said they were having sex about once a week. According to a study published in the journal PLOS One , men can lose an average of calories during a minute romp session, and calories for women. According to Muise, once a week is the number of times most couples say make them happy and signal a good relationship. The couples answered questions about their sexual activity and their happiness. No real surprise here: Hug each other each day, exercise to increase your testosterone levels, and turn off the distractions, like the computer and TV. Laundry, work, cooking meals, cleaning, and other tasks often seem more important than a quickie with your partner; but sex can become fun again! It may take time to figure this out, but putting the focus on intimacy, communication, and bonding with a partner is more important than worrying about numbers, targets, or the sexual frequency of other couples. Still, whether sex is a symptom or a cause of wellbeing, a healthy sex life is worth the work.
